An application that makes waves

Waves play a central role in coastal formation. The creation of waves and their movement are therefore central factors in coastal morphology. LEGI is dedicated to this topic: scientists from the institute in Grenoble (FR) study wave dynamics, especially in flat environments, in order to gain detailed knowledge about the energy exchange between waves.The aim is to develop a wave meteorology whose effects are not only of immediate importance for shipping, but in the longer term should even serve to simulate the effects of climate change.

In use: a multi-camera application with eight synchronized USB 3 UI-3060CP Rev. 2 cameras.

Who has not already experienced this: the new piece of furniture is just waiting to be assembled. You put the parts into order, look into the assembly instructions and… it takes longer than expected!

Scientists at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore) have developed a robot that can independently assemble the individual components of a chair without interruption. The robot consists of an Ensenso N35 3D camera and two robot arms equipped with grippers for picking up objects.

Marine organisms and the structure of their communities in the water column as well as on or in the seabed provide us with important information on future climatic developments. This is true for fluctuations of a natural manner, but also to fluctuations caused by humans.

One of the leading institutions in the field of marine research in Europe is the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel (Germany). The task of the Institute is to study the chemical, physical, biological and geological processes in the ocean and their interaction with the seafloor and the atmosphere.

Higher throughput

There is a growing need for automated solutions in laboratories, and the constantly increasing numbers of specimens and simultaneous drive to shorten process times are making robot-based analysis increasingly attractive in bio-analysis technology. This is also the case when it comes to automating high throughput processes. The Karlsruhe Institute for Technology (KIT) has developed a modular laboratory robot system to perform monotonous manual activities. The detection and analysis work normally carried out by humans is performed by IDS industrial cameras combined with LabView and state of the art machine vision technology.
