IDS NXT vegas as board-level or housed version

IDS NXT vegas is the first product of the new device family. The app-based system makes it as versatile as a smartphone. With the integrated 1.3 MP CMOS sensor, an integrated liquid lens, LED illumination and a ToF sensor (Time of Flight) for distance measurement, it is fully equipped for many different image processing tasks. As a complete embedded vision component, it simplifies integrated design into custom device hardware and software. The board-level option is also very interesting for OEM equipment manufacturers.
 
It automatically reports application-relevant events via its GPIOs. Continuous polling or sending commands is therefore not necessary. For data exchange, the sensor is equipped with generic interfaces. The RS-232 interface can be configured according to individual requirements. An app determines which data are transferred and defines the way to interpret them.
 
Using the RS-232 interface the IDS NXT vegas communicates with any machine controller that also uses this interface. Available gateways allow even systems with alternative protocols such as CAN-Bus, Modbus-RTU, Profibus, KNX, or PROFINET to be addressed. The RESTful (Representational State Transfer) web service provides a TCP/IP communication to configure all device parameters including the apps. It works both via HTTP protocol and the secured HTTPS variant using standard methods such as GET, POST, PUT, PATCH, etc.
 
IDS NXT vision apps run as application programs on the IDS NXT vegas itself and extend the device’s functionality. In addition to the IDS NXT system software, they provide a variable range of functions and process image information supplied by the IDS NXT image sensor. For control and communication with the IDS NXT hardware, the vision app uses the IDS NXT framework libraries. Vision apps deliver results that can be communicated using the IDS NXT interfaces. A vision app can be created by the user thanks to the IDS NXT Software Development Kit (SDK).
 
The IDS NXT vegas is available with full HALCON embedded runtime license and the comprehensive IDS NXT Software Development KIT (SDK).

The first vision app-based sensor from IDS. PC-free machine vision platform with integrated CPU and low power consumption. The Vision app concept ensures maximum flexibility. You can use the IDS development kit to create and install any number of apps on the IDS NXT vegas.

Equipped with the powerful algorithms from the HALCON machine vision library integrated into the IDS software framework, the IDS NXT vegas can execute any machine vision task developed with HALCON. There is no need to connect to a PC.

The eye of the IDS NXT vegas

With its light-sensitive 1.3 megapixel CMOS image sensor (1280 x 1024, 5.3 µm square pixel, monochrome or colour) and integrated LED light source, the IDS NXT vegas captures its environment even in poor lighting conditions. The mono sensor model has a red LED ring, the colour version can be recognized by its white LEDs.

A TOF (time of flight) sensor captures distances from objects. This allows it to detect distance changes independently and trigger in response.

The integrated liquid lens with autofocus readjusts in milliseconds and delivers sharp images for processing, even with variable object distances.

Easy control and interaction

Easy and convenient configuration using the touchscreen-optimized IDS NXT Cockpit for Windows 8 and 10, or the IDS NXT Mobile app for iOS tablets - for configuring your sensor and retrieving system information. Manage access privileges for various user classes, such as admin, service and users (shop floor employees).

The integrated IDS NXT web server interface allows you to download all key device information at any time.

On the device itself, you can use one-touch operation to check the status. The high contrast OLED display shows the values and automatically switches off when not in use.

Integrated flash memory

An integrated 1 GB flash memory is provided for storing images with errors, system logs, user settings and Vision apps. Use internally saved images, for example for subsequent improvement of your code quality (code grading).
