Factory automation: integrate IDS NXT cameras directly via OPC UA

OPC UA brings AI-based image processing to the field level

IDS is the first company to offer inference cameras with native support for the OPC UA protocol, which is a milestone for the convergence of machine vision and process automation. This means that IDS NXT cameras can communicate with machines and controllers in the same language and exchange tasks and results directly. Find out how this works in our latest technical article.

With OPC UA, the recently released software update for IDS NXT cameras introduces a highly interesting new feature for users from the factory automation sector. Up to now, industrial cameras have not been typical OPC UA devices, as they usually do not generate any directly usable information, i.e. result data.

This is different with IDS NXT cameras. As embedded vision systems with integrated SoC (System on Chip), they can independently evaluate images, making OPC UA the perfect language to describe themselves in Industry 4.0 systems. The cameras now transmit information from the field level to machines and controllers in a standardised and seamless manner and thus participate intelligently in the application workflow. Our technical article explains in detail how you bring AI-based image processing to the field level with OPC UA, without writing a single line of code.
