IDS case study: Intelligently navigated, safely inspected
Inspecting critical infrastructure with the help of intelligent drones
The regular inspection of energy plants, bridges and other critical infrastructure is essential for their safety and long-term functionality. Drones (uncrewed aerial vehicles / UAVs) are revolutionising this area by making inspections more efficient, safer and more precise. Thanks to their flexibility, they can even reach areas that are difficult to access from the air and provide high-resolution image and sensor data. One of the biggest challenges is the precise navigation of the drone relative to the object to be inspected.
The Control of Networked Systems research group at the University of Klagenfurt has designed a real-time capable drone based on object-relative navigation using artificial intelligence. On board: a USB3 Vision industrial camera from the uEye LE family from IDS.
In our new application report, you can find out what challenges modern UAV technologies can overcome and what advantages they offer for your inspection processes.
