Making automation tangible – with AI and cameras in the classroom
From building blocks to a smart factory learning project – with the IDS NXT Experience Kit
What at first glance looks like a toy project turns out to be a visionary lesson for the industry of tomorrow: three budding engineers from the Werner von Siemens School in Frankfurt (Germany) have developed an automated sorting system for building blocks using the IDS NXT Experience Kit – demonstrating how tangible artificial intelligence, image processing and industrial communication can already be today.
With an intelligent industrial camera and a Siemens PLC that communicate with each other via OPC UA, colourful bricks become a practical example of intelligent automation. The project impressively demonstrates how easy it is to integrate AI-based vision systems without complicated programming, but with maximum learning success.
Whether in the classroom, in the laboratory or in development, the IDS NXT Experience Kit makes getting started with AI vision easy. Thanks to preconfigured hardware, an intuitive training platform and modular expandability, a learning project quickly becomes a door opener to the world of the smart factory.
